LIMBO: An intermediate situation or state defined by uncertainty; you have to wait to find out what will happen next. In Roman Catholicism, the place between heaven and hell where some non-Christians allegedly go when they die. Limbo is also a fun and participatory dance from the Caribbean in which people bend backward and go under a stick that is moved lower as the dance continues; it is often also called “limbo dancing.”

That’s exactly the kind of transformative, big picture project we especially love to name. The smart, creative, and visionary leadership team at Limbo hired Zinzin to name their new company and its advanced wearable technology platform that’s revolutionizing the way individuals understand and approach weight loss.
Limbo upends the widely marketed notion of generic exercise and diet programs. This innovative program offers an individualized approach that uses helpful nudges based on a person’s biodata. In other words, Limbo wants people to understand how their bodies work, and get helpful feedback from their “wearable coach” in real time. Armed with this knowledge, Limbo empowers participants to continually make the healthiest choices on their weight-loss and wellness journey.
The name Zinzin created, Limbo, evokes the unique, complex, and ultimately optimistic nature of this game-changing technology platform. With a combination of biodata and behavioral psychology that drives nudges to change a person’s behavior (eat, sleep, stress, exercise), Limbo helps members of the program establish new habits, which ultimately lead to transformation. Small changes add up to lasting habits when you stay “in Limbo.”
Limbo is a powerful name with great multiple meanings. On the one hand, Limbo is a quintessential liminal space, such as the limbo between being fit and being unhealthy, the frustrating space in which many people exist before deciding or needing to make positive, healthy changes. In the past being in a “state of limbo” often meant having no control over a situation. Limbo the brand leverages this creative friction to turn that notion on its head, giving people full control. Limbo is also a festive dance that is all about controlled movement, fun, and community.
The name Limbo is short and sweet, with a great look, feel, and sound; a friendly and unforgettable name that reflects both the challenges and optimism of a brand that can change lives forever.
